On Sunday, April 13, the 29th match of IPL 2025 was played between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. During this match, the umpires were seen checking the bat of Mumbai Indians (Mi) captain Hardik Pandya. When Pandya came out to bat at number five after Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed, the umpire examined the width of his bat. He did this because he wanted to ensure that his bat was according to the guidelines prescribed for the tournament.
Umpire checked the bat of three players
The umpire was seen using a device to check an Hardik’s bat. This was the third case in two matches played on 13 April, when the umpire checked the bat of the batsman. Earlier, Shimron Hetmyer and Philip Salt’s bat was also examined during the match between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Jaipur. Let us tell you, in the IPL, the umpire is allowed to check the bat of any batsman.
The umpire had examined the bat to ensure whether it is according to the Rules of the IPL. The bat was examined under Rule 5.7 of the IPL. This rule is about the size of the bat. However, there is no penalty for violating bat size in IPL rules. If the bat is not according to the IPL rules, then in that case the batsman is asked to use another bat.
What is the rule of bat size in IPL?
According to the rule, the total length of the bat should not exceed 38 inches (96.52 cm) including the handle. The width of the bat should not exceed 4.25 inches (10.8 cm). The depth of the bat should not exceed 2.64 inches (6.7 cm). The edge of the bat should not exceed 1.56 inches (4.0 cm). The total length of the bat handle should not exceed 52%.
