ED suspects that smugglers charge Rs 55 to 60 lakh per person for illegal entry into America.
India’s central investigation agency Enforcement Directorate (ED) suspects that human trafficking of Indians is being done in America through Canada. ED has also found suspicious role of 260 colleges of Canada in this case. ED said on Wednesday that this crime is being carried out by an international syndicate.
In fact, 3 years ago in 2022, a Gujarati family had died while illegally entering America through Canada. The smugglers who took them across the border had left them in the middle of a snow storm of minus 37 degrees Celsius.
Ahmedabad Police had registered an FIR in this case. In this FIR, Bhavesh Ashokbhai Patel and some others were accused under the Preventive Money Laundering Act (PMLA). ED’s Ahmedabad Regional Office conducted a search operation in this regard on 10 and 19 December at 8 places in Mumbai, Nagpur, Gandhinagar and Vadodara.
ED investigation has revealed that these smugglers first apply for admission in Canadian colleges. After this, when a person reaches Canada, they make him cross the border illegally and send him to America.
Jagdish Baldevbhai Patel (35), wife Vaishaliben (33), daughter Vihanga (Gopi) (12) and three-year-old son Dharmik died while crossing the Canada border in 2022.
Smugglers charge Rs 55 to 60 lakh per person The agency said that these accused charge Rs 55 to 60 lakh per person for all this work. During the search it was also revealed that two agents in Mumbai and Nagpur send about 35,000 people abroad illegally every year.
1700 agents in Gujarat alone and around 3,500 agents across India were involved in this racket. After action against them, more than 800 agents are still engaged in this work. About 260 colleges in Canada are also participants in this racket.
People take donkey route to go to America Every year thousands of Indians adopt illegal means to go to America, Canada, Australia, UK. In popular term it is called donkey root. The distance from India to America is about 13,500 km. It takes 17 to 20 hours to reach here by air. However, through the Donkey Route the distance reaches 15 thousand km and this journey takes months.
