More than one-third of Tuvalu people have applied for the world’s first ‘climate visa’. This will allow them to remain permanently in Australia. This visa application began on 16 June. However, every year only 280 people will get this visa through lottery.
Tuvalu is a small island country located in the South Pacific Ocean between the city of Hawaii and Australia, which is just 6 meters above sea level. This country is struggling with the danger of sinking due to rising water in the sea due to climate change.
According to a report by the United Nations Development Program, by 2050, half will be submerged in the sea. This is the reason why most people want to leave the country. Australia launched climate visa plan
Australia launched a special visa scheme for the people of Tuvalu on 16 June. Australia’s visa plan for Tuvalu is Falepili Mobility Pathway, which will be run under Pacific Engagement Visa (Subclass 192) Triti Stream (Tuvalu).
This visa plan has been made to protect people from the effect of climate change. People who have obtained this visa will get permanent residence, right to work, free health services and education in Australia.
The visa plan is part of an agreement between Australia and Tulvalu in 2023, in which Australia has taken responsibility for Tuvalu’s military and climate security. Australia has also promised that even if the land of Tuvalu is completely submerged in water, its sovereignty and identity will remain.
Tauvalu can end by the end of this century
Prime Minister of Tuvalu Felleti Tiyo said that by 2050, half of Tuvalu will be submerged in the sea, and 90% will be in water by 2100.

However, US President Donald Trump’s government has taken strict steps on climate policies and immigration. The US wants to add 36 countries including Tuvalu to the travel ban list. Which includes Tonga and Vanuatu, the neighboring countries of Tuvalu.
