New Delhi: It is harsh winter in the states of North India including Delhi. This morning there was a thin layer of fog in NCR including Delhi and Noida. The minimum temperature was recorded at 9 degrees Celsius at Delhi’s India Gate. Due to drizzle, dense fog may be seen in Delhi-NCR during the next 24 hours.

It will rain in these states for the next seven days

At the same time, the Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for heavy rain in many states. Due to the rain, the severe cold conditions are expected to worsen in the next seven days in states like Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana. IMD has issued orange alert for rain in Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur and Mandi districts of Himachal Pradesh.

Scattered rain has been predicted over areas of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi-NCR during the next few days. In Punjab, there is a possibility of fog and light rain in some areas of Chandigarh. According to the information given by the Meteorological Department, today there may be light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms at different places in Tamil Nadu. There is a possibility of heavy rain in Karaikal and on 25 and 26 December.

Water pipes and rivers froze in Kashmir

It is extremely cold in Jammu and Kashmir also. In Kashmir and other high altitude areas, water pipes have frozen and hydropower generation has been disrupted due to river water turning into ice. There has been snowfall in Kashmir Valley and Ladakh. The temperature in the valley has reached minus 24 degrees. There may be fresh snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh and Sikkim.

Dense fog is falling here

The Meteorological Department said that during the last 24 hours, dense fog was seen in the northeastern states. Very dense fog was observed in different parts of Meghalaya. Visibility here remained up to 50 meters. 40 meter visibility was recorded in Barapani of Meghalaya, 50 in Purnia of Bihar, 93 in Udaipur of Rajasthan, 92 in Churu, 100 meter visibility was recorded in Bilaspur of Himachal Pradesh.
