New Delhi: Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar said on Friday in the midst of a controversy over a controversy over an alleged comment on Rajiv Gandhi’s educational record that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) propagated a small clip of an interview of his more than two hours, while in the same conversation he described Rajiv Gandhi as a “best” Prime Minister. He made this comment during the discussion on his new book ‘A. Meverry in Politics’ in “Foreign Correspondents Club of South Asia”.
50 second clip with 2 hours 23 minutes interview
When asked about the controversy, Iyer read a statement, in which he said that BJP IT department chief Amit Malviya took out a clip of less than a minute from an interview for more than 2 hours and more than 23 minutes. He said, “My interview was 2 hours, more than 23 minutes. Malaviya took out a clip of less than one minute or less than 50 seconds. When I said the same thing on page 248 of my memoir released in August 2023, the media did not take any notice. But when Amit Malviya has drawn a 50 second clip, a big controversy was created on the media and social media. ”
Rajiv Gandhi was the best Prime Minister
The former Union Minister said, “If someone in Malaviya or media had cared for listening to only ten seconds, you would have heard me saying: ‘And today I am probably a person who says that if there was a very good Prime Minister, he (Rajiv Gandhi).”
Congress has Gandhi family in DNA
When asked about the dominance of the Gandhi family in the Congress, Iyer said that the Congress has a Gandhi family in DNA. He said that the members of the Nehru-Gandhi family may have held any position of the party or not, but for more than 100 years, party workers and leaders have been watching him with respect. On Wednesday, a video clip shared by the BJP leader on ‘X’ by Amit Malviya can hear Iyer claiming that Rajiv Gandhi had to struggle academically in England. (Language)
