Jaishankar was addressing a dialogue session at Hansraj College on Thursday.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has described US President Donald Trump as’ American nationalist and said that some of his policies may be out of syllabus for India. Addressing a dialogue session at Hansraj College, Delhi University on Thursday, Jaishankar said that India’s relations with America are strong.

The Foreign Minister was asked the question in the dialogue session, how do you see Trump for India- a friend or danger? On this, Jaishankar said- (smiling) brothers have just come as his guests. Went to his swearing in. Gave us good treatment. Now he has its own message.

Jaishankar further said-

He (Trump) is a nationalist. Trump feels that the US has taken responsibility for the whole world for the last 80 years. This is fruitful. What is spent on the world should be in America. This is their thinking. It is our matter of India’s relations with America. Modi ji has personal relations with Trump.

Jaishankar said- Now non-Indians also call themselves Indians Jaishankar admitted that many policies of Trump could bring significant changes in global affairs. The Foreign Minister said, he will change many things. Maybe some things are out of syllabus but we have to be open in the context of foreign policies in the interest of the country. He said that there may be some issues on which we do not agree but there will be many areas where things will be within our scope.

During the session, Jaishankar talked about India’s growing global influence and changing perceptions about the country. He said, ‘Even now non-Indians call themselves Indians, they feel that it will give them a seat in the aircraft’
