Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sachin Tendulkar
IND vs AUS: On the second day of the Boxing Day Test being played in Melbourne, Australia managed to score 474 runs in the first innings, thanks to Steve Smith’s brilliant century. Steve Smith played the highest innings of 140 runs for Australia. For India, Jasprit Bumrah once again took the maximum of 4 wickets while Ravindra Jadeja took 3 batsmen. In response to Australia’s huge score, the Indian innings had a very poor start. Captain and opening batsman Rohit Sharma once again proved to be a flop. Rohit returned to the pavilion after scoring only 8 runs. Australian captain Pat Cummins dismissed Rohit Sharma. After the dismissal of Rohit Sharma, young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal took the lead along with KL Rahul and took India’s score beyond 50 runs.
Jaiswal missed a century
KL Rahul was out after scoring 24 runs and then Virat Kohli came to the crease to support Jaiswal. Both the batsmen played brilliantly and created a partnership of more than 100 runs to put pressure on the Australian bowlers. However, in the meantime, the partnership between Virat and Jaiswal broke while trying to steal runs. Jaiswal became victim of a mistake with fellow batsman Kohli. As soon as Jaiswal played the shot, he ran to steal the run but there was no scope for runs there. On the throw of Australian captain Cummins, wicketkeeper Alex Carey scattered the wickets and showed him the way to the pavilion. Jaiswal played a brilliant inning of 82 runs in 118 balls. In this innings he hit 11 fours and one six.
Tendulkar’s record destroyed
Even though Jaiswal missed the century, with the help of his innings of 82 runs, he broke the huge record of 22 year old Sachin Tendulkar. Jaiswal has broken Sachin Tendulkar’s record in terms of scoring most runs in a calendar year. In 2002, Sachin scored 1392 runs in 26 innings of 16 Test matches, which included 4 centuries and 5 half-centuries. Now Yashasvi Jaiswal has scored 1394 runs in 28 innings of 15 test matches this year. He is the second highest run scorer in Tests in the year 2024.
