
Indian hockey team
Hockey India has announced a record Rs 12 crore prize money for its seventh annual awards. In this, 32 players have been named in eight categories. The annual award ceremony will be held on Saturday, where the players who performed the best in the 2024 season will be honored. The ceremony will be the center of prestigious Balbir Singh Senior Award attraction which will be given to the best male and female player of the year. Young talents will also be honored at the ceremony. The Jugraj Singh Award will be given to the emerging best male player and the Asunta Lakra Award to the Best Women Player emerging.
This time’s award ceremony has special significance, as it is being held on the same day when the Indian men’s hockey team won the historic World Cup in 1975 50 years ago – which is the only hockey World Cup title of the country so far. Also, in 2025, the completion of 100 years of Indian hockey will be celebrated, as India was recognized by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) on 7 November 1925.
Nominations for Hockey India Annual Awards 2024 are as follows:
- Hockey India Baljit Singh Award for the best goalkeeper of the year 2024: Bichu Devi Kharibam, Krishna Bahadur Pathak, PR Sreejesh, Savita.
- Hockey India Pargat Singh Award for the best defender of 2024: Sanjay, Amit Rohidas, Harmanpreet Singh, Udita.
- Hockey India Ajit Pal Singh Award for the best midfielder of 2024: Jarmanpreet Singh, Hardik Singh, Neelakanta Sharma, Sumit.
- Hockey India Dhanraj Pillai Award for Best Forward of 2024: Lalremsiami, Abhishek, Sukhjit Singh, Navneet Kaur.
- Hockey India Asunaa Lakra Award (below 21 years) for the emerging female player of the year: Beauty Dungdung, Deepika, Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke, Sunelita Toppo.
- Hockey India Jugraj Singh Award for the emerging male player of the year (less than 21 years): Arshdeep Singh, Aamir Ali, Sharadanand Tiwari, Arijit Singh Hundal.
- Hockey India Balbir Singh Senior Award for the best female player of the year: Savita Punia, Salima Tete, Sangeeta Kumari, Navneet Kaur.
- Hockey India Balbir Singh Senior Award for the best male player of the year: Abhishek, Hardik Singh, Harmanpreet Singh, Sukhjit Singh.
