The 5th and last Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 was played in Sydney. With the defeat in this match, Team India’s journey in the World Test Championship i.e. WTC 2023-25 ended. Australia defeated Team India 3-1 in the 5-match Test series. Indian batting flopped badly in this entire series. Team India’s star batsman was seen struggling. Big names like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were also included in these. Even though Kohli scored a century in the first test, his bat became quiet after that. Kohli scored only 190 runs in 9 innings of 5 Test matches of this series at an average of 23.75. After this disappointing performance, the former cricketer of Team India has talked about dropping Virat Kohli from the team and has also advocated eliminating the superstar clutch in Team India.
Former fast bowler Irfan Pathan told Star Sports that superstar culture should end in the team, there is a need for team culture. You have to improve your performance and that of the team. There were matches before this series and he had a chance to play domestic cricket but he did not play. This culture has to change.
Kohli failed miserably
Pathan asked when did Virat Kohli last play domestic cricket. More than a decade ago. He said that someone young should be given a chance in place of Kohli because his average in the first innings in the last five years has been less than 30. He said that Virat Kohli’s average in the first innings in 2024 has been 15. Not even 30 in the last five years. Should such seniors be in the Indian team? Instead, a chance should be given to a youngster who will definitely give an average of 25.30.
Pathan said that when we talk about Kohli, he has done a lot for India. Lots of good performances but getting out on the same mistakes again and again. You are not even trying to correct this technical mistake. Sunny sir (Gavaskar) is here. How long does it take to talk to them or anyone else?
