Civil aviation regulator DGCA on Friday issued an order suspending the operations director and training director of Akasa Air for six months for alleged lapses in training of pilots. Two senior executives of the Rakesh Jhunjhunwala family-owned airline have failed to comply with civil aviation requirements, PTI reported. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued this order in separate orders dated December 27.
Found the replies to the show cause notice unsatisfactory
According to the report, the order to suspend Akasa Air’s operations director and training director was given after the DGCA found their replies to the show cause notices issued to them on October 15 and October 30 respectively were unsatisfactory. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation, in its orders, also advised the airline to nominate suitable candidates for both the posts.
Order received from DGCA on 27 December 2024
Akasa Air said in a statement that Akasa Air has received an order from DGCA on December 27, 2024. We will continue to work with DGCA and comply accordingly. Safety is of paramount importance and we constantly strive to maintain the highest standards of safety. Issuing the suspension order, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said that the regulatory audit conducted by DGCA on October 7, 2024 at M/s SNV Aviation Pvt Ltd (Akasa Air), Mumbai, has found that RNP training (approach) on such simulators is being conducted who are not eligible for it. This is a violation of Paragraph 7 of CAR Section 7, Series D, Part VI.
Both officers failed to ensure compliance
DGCA said the Director of Operations and Director of Training at Akasa Air failed to ensure compliance with Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR), both officials, and failed to adequately train personnel. Apart from this, repeated lapses/violations related to training have been found. The DGCA in its order also said that both the senior officers have failed to discharge the duties to meet the applicable legal requirements and maintain safe operations, as per certain provisions of a particular CAR.
