Mangaluru: On Wednesday, 45 prisoners fell victim to food poisoning in a district jail located in Mangaluru, Karnataka, after which he had to be hospitalized. According to reports, after having lunch, the prisoners started having stomach problems. Following complaints of health problems, all 45 prisoners were admitted to the Government Vallock Hospital on Wednesday. The condition of one of these hospitalized prisoners is said to be critical and he is being treated in ICU. According to the jail officials, the prisoners were served rice in lunch and ‘Avalki’ in breakfast i.e. Poha.
‘Prisoners complained of stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea’
According to reports, the health of the prisoners started deteriorating around 3 pm after lunch. Giving information about the case, Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Anupam Aggarwal said that after lunch, the jail officials noticed that some prisoners’ health suddenly deteriorated. He said that after lunch, the prisoners complained of stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea. In view of the condition of the prisoners, the jail administration immediately rushed all the sick prisoners to the district government hospital amid the security of the police.
‘Food samples have been sent to the lab for investigation’
City Police Commissioner said that the condition of all the other prisoners except a prisoner hospitalized is said to be stable. He said that the health department team has sent the lab for the drinking water, morning breakfast and lunch samples for their testing. Aggarwal visited the hospital after the inmates were admitted and took stock of the situation. He also spoke to the doctors treating the prisoners in the hospital.
