Johran Mamdani won a major victory in the Democratic Primary election for the Mayor of New York City. He is the State Assemblyman of Queens. On Tuesday, the Election Board of New York City released the results of rank-cold voting.
Mammadani received 56% of the votes, while former Governor Andrew Qumo got 44% votes. The final results will come by July. The 33 -year -old Mamdani will now participate in the main election to be held in November. They will compete with Mayor Eric Adams, Republican Candidate Curtis Sliva and Independent Candidate Jim Walden.
Adams is a Democrat, but he did not participate in primary and is contesting as an independent. Cumo is also running as an independent, but he has not yet decided whether he would continue the campaign or not.
The number of Democrats in New York is six times more than the Republics, so Mamdani is considered a strong contender for victory. Mamdani said, “I feel honored with the support of more than 5 lakh New Yorkers. This is our beginning to make New York cheaper.”
