Year Ender 2024: The year 2024 is going to end soon. This year the Government of India showed great seriousness regarding the health of the people. Health Ministry of Health 156 Fixed-Dose Combination (FDC) Medicines banned. These include widely used diabetes medications, antibiotics, pain medications, and multivitamins. In a gazette notice issued by the government, the Health Ministry said that the production, marketing and distribution of these medicines has now been banned due to the health risks associated with them.
Many of the medicines banned by the Health Ministry are commonly used on a daily basis. This year, it was decided to remove about 156 medicines from the market simultaneously. These medicines include many important medicines including pain medicine and diabetes. The banned FDCs also include popular drugs like mefenamic acid and paracetamol injection. They are commonly used for pain relief and fever.
Many medicines for urine infection have also been removed from the market. The combination of Ofloxacin and Flavojet is used in urine infection. But now these medicines have disappeared from the market. Some medicines containing high doses of paracetamol have also been banned in the market. In 2024, the Health Ministry banned some high doses of paracetamol which are dangerous for health. Some female infertility drugs have also been banned. This medicine was used for infertility in women, but now it is not available in the market.
These companies will be affected
Dicyclomine Hcl along with Omeprazole Magnesium has also been banned. They are used to treat stomach ache. The ban is expected to impact several other major pharmaceutical companies including Sun Pharmaceuticals, Cipla, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Torrent Pharmaceuticals and Alkem Laboratories.
A drug ‘containing phenylephrine’ has also been banned. It is commonly used in cold, cough and catarrh. According to IANS, if this medicine is used excessively, it can cause heart problems. Many studies have revealed that this medicine can also increase blood pressure.
Ban on these medicines
The government also removed medicines containing very high doses of Vitamin D from the market. Many medicines used for eye infections have also been banned. These include medicines like naphazoline+chlorpheniramine maleate phenylephrine+hydroxypropylmethylcellulose+boric acid+menthol+camphor combination. Along with this, medicines like Chlorpheniramine Maleate + Sodium Chloride + Boric Acid + Tetrahydrozoline have also been removed from the market.
Apart from this, some medicines containing combination of minerals and multivitamins have also been banned. Antibiotics like “ceftin” and “colistin” have also been banned. Along with migraine medicines, some medicines used for stomach ache, acidity and vomiting have been banned in the market. The banned FDCs include antibiotics, anti-allergic medicines, pain medicines, multivitamins and medicines for fever and blood pressure.

Fixed-dose combination (FDC) medications are treatments that include two or more active drugs. These are commonly known as cocktail drugs. On August 12, the Union Health Ministry issued a gazette notification, announcing a ban on the commonly used painkiller ‘Aceclofenac 50mg + Paracetamol 125mg Tablets’ by major pharmaceutical companies.
