People suffering from road accidents in India will now get cashless treatment facility in the hospital for treatment. The central government has implemented a new scheme from 5 May 2025. The new scheme is named Cashless Treatment of Road Accident Victims Scheme, 2025. Under this scheme, a person injured in any road accident will get free treatment up to Rs 1.5 lakh. That too for 7 days of the accident. For this, the patient will not have to pay any money before being hospitalized.
Who will get the benefit?
If someone gets hurt in an accident related to a motor vehicle, he can get cashless treatment by going to any designated hospital. If the patient is taken to a non-coated hospital, there will be only the cost of stabilisation from the scheme.
How will you get the facility?
The patient or any person will inform the police within 24 hours. Treatment will be started as soon as the patient arrives in the hospital. If treatment is not possible in the hospital, he will refer the patient to another hospital and will also arrange an ambulance.
How will the plan work?
The government has appointed a nodal agency for this. This agency will work closely with the National Health Authority – it will be the responsibility of registration of hospitals, tracking patients and fixing payment on time. The scheme will be expanded with state agencies and fraud will be monitored.
After the treatment is completed, the hospital will put a claim on an online portal. The state agency will investigate and approve it within 10 days and pay. If there is confusion about the rules, then only the rules of the main plan will be valid.
Why is this scheme important?
Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said that in 2024, 1.8 lakh people lost their lives in road accidents, out of which 30,000 people were killed due to not wearing helmets. He said that 66% of those who died in road accidents are aged between 18 and 34 years and about 10,000 children were killed in accidents near the school-college.
