In Nandyal district of Andhra Pradesh, the parents of a young man committed suicide after he expressed his desire to marry a transgender. According to Nandyal sub-divisional police officer P Srinivas Reddy, Sunil Kumar, son of Subba Rayudu (45) and Saraswati (38), was associated with the local transgender community for the last three years and the couple committed suicide following a dispute.
Sunil was in a relationship with a transgender for 3 years
Police said that Sunil Kumar was in a relationship with a transgender for three years and was adamant that he would not marry any girl. He told that he insisted on living with a transgender, due to which he often had fights with his parents. Police said on Thursday that Kumar had also earlier attempted suicide over this matter.
Parents were insulted by transgender community
Investigation revealed that Sunil had spent Rs 1.5 lakh of the transgenders, after which the transgenders started demanding this amount from his parents and started threatening them. He said members of the transgender community also publicly humiliated Kumar’s parents, which further upset them and possibly led to the extreme step. Police said investigation into the matter is ongoing. (with language inputs)
