80 years have passed since the end of the Second World War (1939–45), but the foundation of global peace has started to waver again. According to the latest survey of Yugov, people of America and Europe are fearing a third world war in five to ten years. Increased tension with Russia, US foreign policy and threat of nuclear weapons are believed to be the biggest cause of this fear.
55% of the people involved in the survey admitted that another global war is possible. At the same time, 76% believes that nuclear weapons will be used in the World War. People are also afraid that it will be far more disastrous than the Second World War. People in Europe and America are fearing their countries to join this war. The survey also revealed that citizens of many European countries have less confidence in the defense capacity of their armies.
Memories of Second World War still fresh
The memories of the Second World War are still fresh in the minds of the people. 90% of the people in the survey believe that this war should be taught in schools. People in France (72%), Germany (70%) and Britain (66%) have good knowledge about this war, while in Spain this figure is only 40%. 77% French and 60% German say they were taught in detail about this war in school.
52% said- Atrocities like Nazi rule are still possible
52% of people feel that atrocities like Nazi rule around the world are still possible. 60% believes that this danger exists in the US or other European countries. This fear shows that the possibility of repeating history mistakes is not over yet.
Islamic terrorism is also a big threat
In the survey, 82% of Western Europe and 69% of America described stress with Russia as the biggest threat. People believe that Russia’s military activities and its nuclear capacity are a threat to global stability. Apart from Russia, Islamic terrorism is also considered a major threat. People believe that it is necessary to control it soon. This fear is a sign of increasing cracks in global diplomacy.
66% considered NATO and 60% important for the United Nations for peace
66% of people considered NATO the biggest contributor in maintaining peace after the war. 60% also considered the United Nations important in this direction. The European Union was also described by 56% of the people as a major pillar of peace.
The survey also revealed that in Germany, 47% believe that earlier governments have been very conscious of Nazi past. But the present government has failed to take strong steps in recent crises.
