Vodafone Idea: Crores of users can be affected when the company is closed, what will have to be taken?

Vodafone Idea has difficulties. The Supreme Court has refused to provide relief to the country’s third major telecom company in the AGR (Adjusted Gross Revenue) case on Monday 19 May. Apart from Vodafone-Idea, Bharti Airtel and Tata had filed a petition in the Supreme Court for waiver of interest on dues, penalty and interest on penalty.

VI on the verge of closure?

Vodafone Idea will be difficult to survive in the next financial year after a major setback from the Supreme Court. In such a situation, there is also a possibility of the company being closed. The company in its petition had demanded a discount in AGR dues worth Rs 45,457 crore. The telecom company, which is struggling with the financial crisis, has said that it will be difficult to work after FY 2026 without the support of the government. The company owes more AGR than the current operating cost, due to which the company has reached the verge of closure. However, the government can save Vodafone-Idea from closing to maintain competition in the market.

Vodafonde Idea currently has more than 200 million active users. The company has recently launched its 5G service in Delhi and NCR. Despite buying 5G spectrum in 2022, it took the company 3 years to launch its 5G service. At the same time, 5G service of Airtel and Jio has reached almost all the districts of the country. Apart from Delhi, VI’s 5G service has started in Mumbai, Chandigarh and Patna.

Will have a new connection when the company is closed?

In such a situation, this question must be arising in the minds of millions of users of VI that if the company is closed then will we have to take a new connection? As you know, companies like Tata Indicom, Aircel and Reliance India Mobile have been closed earlier. Users of those companies got the option to port to other telecom operators like Airtel and Jio etc.

In such a situation, if Vodafone-Idea is closed, then you can port your number to another operator. For this, users will be given time to port the number, that is, you may have to change the operator instead of changing the number (taking a new connection).
