Last year many veteran cricketers said goodbye to international cricket. The name of England’s legendary bowler James Anderson was also included among them. Anderson, the fast bowler who took the most wickets in Test cricket, announced his retirement after playing his last Test match against West Indies in July 2024. However, Anderson could not keep himself away from cricket for long and immediately after retirement became England’s bowling mentor. After this, the veteran bowler hinted at a comeback in T20 cricket and also got his name included in the IPL auction but no team showed any interest in buying him. Despite this, Anderson has not given up hope and now he is looking forward to returning to county cricket.

Giants ready to make a comeback

Meanwhile, news has emerged that James Anderson is ready to return to professional cricket in Division 2 of the County Championship next season. It has been revealed that he is in talks with Lancashire about a return to all formats. According to The Telegraph, James Anderson is ready to commit to at least one final season with Lancashire. The same club that first signed him as a teenager nearly 25 years ago and made his first-class cricket debut in 2002.

Lancashire were relegated from the top division of the County Championship last season. However, Anderson surprised everyone by taking 7 wickets for 35 runs in his only appearance against Nottinghamshire at Southport in June, demonstrating the enduring potential of his fitness and skills in first-class cricket.

Lancashire will debut in April

Anderson is expected to be available from the start of the 2025 season, which will also include a return to action for Lancashire to face Middlesex at Lord’s from 4 to 7 April. He can play in five matches before the start of England’s Test summer. It is noteworthy that Lancashire’s first home match will be against Northamptonshire at Old Trafford in the second round of the Championship, which will start on April 11.
