In these ways, they make their victims
Fishing: Thugs send fake links to some people, by clicking on which an app opens and money is deducted from the account automatically. Fake banks can call as employees and ask for UPI PIN or OTP. The OTP is sent through fake email, SMS or call. Never click on unknown link and do not share your OTP with anyone.
Fake UPI app: Some scammers create fake apps that look like real UPI apps. They seduce people to download the app and then steal their personal and banking data and cheat them. Never share access to your phone or computer through an app.
Fraud from QR Code: The scammers ask to scan the QR code, but it generates a payment request, which makes the money deducted from the user’s account. Do not scan any unknown QR code.
Fraud from ‘request money’: The thugs send the link ‘request money’. If the user click on it without checking it and puts UPI PIN, then the money is deducted from his account and goes to the thugs account. At the same time, thugs say through calls, messages or social media that you have won the reward or got a job. If you share UPI details after coming in a bluff, then you can be cheated.
Fake payment screenshot: The fraudsters send fake screenshots saying that they have sent money to you by mistake and ask them back to them. At the same time, the thugs make fake UPI IDs like real and mislead people to send money to the wrong account.
Screen sharing cheat: The fraudsters as a bank employee ask to download the screen mirroring app, so that they can get cheated by reaching your phone. They call themselves online sellers and ask for payment from UPI, but never send goods.
