The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has announced that the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) Transaction ID will no longer be allowed to write special characters from 1 February. Any transaction with such special character will be rejected by the Central System automatically. This announcement was made to standardize the process of creating the UPI Transaction ID. NPCI also urged all payment service provider to ensure compliance.
In a circular of January 9, NPCI directed all payment companies to use only alphonumeric character for transaction IDs. The official release of NPCI states, “Our OC 193 of March 28, 2024 can be referred to, in which UPI Ecosystem Players were advised to use only alphanumeric character to create a UPI transaction ID. This UPI To ensure compliance with technical specialties. “
This development has taken place at a time when UPI transactions are constantly reaching record levels. India TV cited NPCI data stated that in December 2024, the number of such UPI transactions reached 16.73 billion, which is 8% higher than 15.48 billion in November.
The total value of these transactions also reached ₹ 23.25 lakh crore in December, compared to ₹ 21.55 lakh crore in November.
According to the report, in addition, the Daily Average Transaction Count increased to 539.68 million in December, which has increased by 516.07 million in November.
