travel And hotel booking platform OYO has issued a new check-in rule for its partner hotels. It has been first implemented in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. This rule has become effective from this year. As per the updated guidelines, unmarried couples will no longer be allowed to check-in at hotels. That means only husband and wife will be able to take a room in the hotel. Under the revised policy, all couples will be asked to provide valid proof of their relationship at the time of check-in. This rule will also be applicable for booking done online.
Started from Meerut
The company said Oyo has empowered its partner hotels to reject bookings for unmarried couples at their discretion, in keeping with local social sensitivities. Oyo has instructed its partner hotels in Meerut to ensure this with immediate effect. People familiar with the policy change said that depending on the ground response, the company may expand it to more cities. “OYO had earlier also received feedback from social groups to resolve this issue, especially in Meerut,” he said. Additionally, residents of some other cities have also demanded that unmarried couples not be allowed to check-in at Oyo hotels.
This policy will continue to be reviewed
Pavas Sharma, regional head, OYO North India, told PTI, “OYO is committed to maintaining a safe and responsible hospitality culture. We respect individual freedoms, but we also recognize our responsibility to listen to and work with law enforcement and civil society groups in these markets.” He said the company will review this policy and its policy from time to time. Will continue to review its impact.
