US President Donald Trump on Thursday issued an order to ban the International Criminal Court (ICC). Trump has taken this step after an arrest warrant issued by the ICC against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yov Galant.

Trump said in the order that the US and Israel are not members of this court. Nor do it recognize it. The ICC has misused its powers.

He has also ordered to seize the property of ICC officials, employees and their family members as well as the person who helped in investigation and impose a ban.

Netanyahu is on a US tour. He met Trump at the White House on 4 February and MPs on 6 February.

The ICC issued an arrest warrant on 21 November against Netanyahu and Galant in Gaza in the case of war crime, human rights violations and genocide.

Among those who supported were 198 MPs of the Republican party and 45 from the Democratic Party. No Republican MP opposed the bill.

ICC cannot arrest

America has banned ICC earlier also

The US has also banned ICC before. Earlier, Donald Trump banned the ICC in 2020 during his first term.

In fact, the ICC started investigating Israel’s criminal activities in the US and Palestine in Afghanistan. The Trump administration imposed ban on the ICC against this. However, Biden later lifted these sanctions after Biden became President.

On 1 July 2002, the International Criminal Court i.e. ICC was started. This institution investigates the worldwide war crime, massacre and crimes against humanity. The institution takes action based on the rules prepared on the 1998 Rome agreement.

The International Criminal Court headquarters is in The Hague. 123 countries, including Britain, Canada, Japan, are members of the International Criminal Court under Rome Agreement.
