On January 3, 1978, Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn Carter went to Daulatpur Nasirabad village near New Delhi. The journey was so successful that after some time the residents of the village renamed the area ‘Carterpuri’.

According to the Carter Center, Jimmy Carter’s mother, Lillian, also worked there as a health volunteer with the Peace Corps in the late 1960s.
