The summer season is at its peak and the temperature is reaching 40 degrees during the day. In such a situation, the air conditioner (AC) is being used continuously day and night, due to which the electricity bill of every household increases manifold. Keeping this in mind, the Indian government has appealed to the common people to make a small change, which will not only reduce electricity consumption but will reduce the effect of electricity bill on the pocket.
What is the advice of the government?
According to the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), if you increase the temperature of your AC just 1 ° C, you can save electricity up to about 6%. The government considers this remedy as a less expensive and environment friendly solution.
How will the AC benefit from increasing the temperature?
Bee says that people usually set their AC to 20–21 ° C, while the comfortable temperature range is considered 24–25 ° C. If a person runs AC at 24 ° C instead of 20 ° C, power consumption may decrease by up to 24%. With this, the monthly electricity bill of homes can be reduced to a great extent.
Impact on the whole country
BEE estimates that if only 50% AC users in India also follow this advice, then 10 billion units of electricity can be saved in the country every year. This means that there will be an annual savings of Rs 5,000 crore and a decrease in 8.2 million tonnes of coars, which will also be a major relief for the environment.
Why does this happen?
Technically, when you set AC to a slightly higher temperature (such as 26 ° C), that temperature is obtained quickly and the AC compressor is closed. This reduces power consumption. For example, if you run AC for 8 hours and set to 26 ° C, the compressor of AC will last only 5 hours or less-provided the doors and shirts of the room are closed.
Factory settings can also change
Bee also stated that users can also change the factory default setting of AC. People are being encouraged for this so that this small step can play an important role in fulfilling the country’s power saving and development target. If every house increases the temperature of AC slightly, then this step can lighten the electricity bill.
