Panaji: Adding new chapters of National Highways in the development of Goa, Union Road and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday dedicated 6 National Highway projects at a cost of Rs 4200 crore in Vasco. Gadkari said on this occasion that South Goa is being connected with better connectivity and modern facilities. However, he seemed quite upset with the encroachment on roads in Goa and gave an ultimatum to free Goa’s roads from illegal encroachment. Gadkari said that if the encroachment is not removed, he will himself make arrangements to remove the encroachment by installing bulldozers.

‘Government people have encroached on this road’

Gadkari showed a strict stance on encroachment and said, ‘I request the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary that whenever they inspect, I have a doubt that government people have encroached on this road. Its width is not equal. Measure this road and give notice where there is encroachment as per your records. If they don’t demolish it on time, I will arrange for it to be demolished by deploying a bulldozer. The second one is that there is a request to the CM that there is some hindrance in the flying zone. Call a meeting at your level. The Navy has said the place is its own. I think Navy’s wall compound is under encroachment, take a look. The place should be vacated by removing encroachment.

Gadkari proposed ‘water taxi’ in Mumbai

Earlier, Gadkari proposed 10,000 water taxis to transport people from remote suburbs of Mumbai to Navi Mumbai International Airport. The Union minister said the ‘water taxis’ can transport people from suburbs like Virar, located along the Arabian Sea in Mumbai’s north, and Kalyan-Dombivli in the north-east along Thane Creek, to the new airport in 70 minutes. He said, ‘Water taxis from all parts of Mumbai from Vasai-Virar to Kalyan-Dombivli can connect to the new airport in 70 minutes. I have already discussed this proposal with the Chief Minister. We need 10,000 water taxis in Mumbai.
