The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) finally released a long pending tender for the Kamathipura Cluster Revolution Project in South Mumbai. It has been released in the Construction and Development Model. Kamathipura area is in dire need of redevelopment. The release of this tender has come as a new hope for this region.
According to MHADA, there are 8,001 residential and non-residential tenants in Kamathipura with 34 acres of land. Many of them live in highly old, dilapidated condition and poor quality homes, known as “cess building”. There are about 943 cess buildings from lane 1 to 15 in Kamathipura area. Of these, there are about 6625 residential and 1376 non-residential tenants/residents. The buildings of the region are about 100 years old.
Winning Bidder will have the right to develop an area of 61 lakh sq ft
MHADA is the nodal authority of the state of Maharashtra for affordable housing. MHADA said in a statement that through this project, the winning bidder will have the rights to develop an area of about 5.67 lakh square meters or about 61 lakh square feet. In addition, the bidding developer will have to build rehabilitation units for the residents in the area. Also, Mhada will have to hand over 44,000 square meters of land, so that MHADA can increase its housing stock. This project will also include entertainment facilities as well as features like commercial properties.
