Stocks market on budget day: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the General Budget 2025-26 in Parliament on 1 February today. In this budget, he made several big announcements including zero income tax on income of up to 12 lakhs under the new tax regime. However, the stock market did not look very happy with these elements. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s budget speech started around Rs 2.41 lakh crore in the stock market of investors in the next 82 minutes. Even by the end of the budget speech, the Sensex and Nifty lost their full lead and came in the red mark.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s budget speech started in Parliament at 11.01 am. The Finance Minister gave a total of 77 minutes i.e. 1 hour 17 minutes long budget speech. This budget speech closed at 12.18 pm.

Just before the budget speech started, the BSE Sensex was trading at 77,752.9 points at around 10.58 am. During this period, the total market cap of listed companies in BSE increased to Rs 426.85 crore.

However, during the budget speech, the Sensex lost all its leads and was trading at 77,386.03 points to 77,386.03 points at around 12.20 in the afternoon. With this, the total market cap of listed companies in BSE also came down to Rs 424.44 lakh crore. Thus from 10.58 am to 12.20 in the afternoon, the market value of BSE listed companies declined by about Rs 2.41 lakh crore.

The most stirred in these shares

After the budget speech, Jomato shares on the Sensex saw the most stir. Jomato shares jumped more than 7 per cent during trading. Apart from this, shares of Maruti Suzuki, ITC, Titan and HUL were also included in top gainers and saw a rise of 4 per cent to 5.5 per cent.

On the other hand, the shares of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) remained under heavy pressure and broke more than 4 percent during trading. Apart from this, shares of Power Grid, Tech Mahindra, Tata Steel and UltraTech Cement were also included in the top losquers.
