ITR can file taxpayers by 15 September
The Income Tax Department (CBDT) has extended the last date for filing income tax returns (ITR) for Financial Year 2024-25 (Assessment Year 2025-26). Now taxpayers will be able to file ITR by 15 September 2025 instead of 31 July 2025. CBDT released a press release on 27 May 2025 informing about the decision. The department said that this time a large -scale changes have been made in ITR forms. These changes include both content and structure. Its purpose is to make the process of filing returns easier, decide the accuracy of transparent and information.
The Income Tax Department said that according to the new forms, it would take time to develop e-filing utilities, add them to the system and testing. Apart from this, the TDS Credit Deadline on May 31 usually appear on the portal in early June. If the return date is not extended, taxpayers would have very little time left to file returns.
