There is an update for passengers traveling from Delhi Airport. Terminal 2 (T2) of Delhi Airport will remain closed for four to six months for renovation work in the next financial year. Delhi Airport operator DIAL gave this information on Friday. According to PTI news, DIAL says that the airport may remain closed till September 2025. Let us tell you, Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in the national capital, which is also the busiest airport in the country, has three terminals – T1, T2 and T3.

Work is expected to be completed in the second quarter of financial year 2026.

According to the news, at present T1 and T2 are used only for domestic flights. The renovation work of T2 is scheduled to begin in 2025-26 and is expected to be completed in the second quarter of fiscal 2026, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) said in a release. The financial year starts from April 1, 2025. Terminal 2 will be temporarily closed for approximately 4 to 6 months to complete these improvements.

Terminal T2 was built 40 years ago

It is expected that the temporary closure of Terminal T2 may cause minor disruptions in operations as the newly developed Terminal 1 will bear the additional load, ensuring continued service to passengers. Let us tell you, T2 was constructed 40 years ago by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). The decades-old terminal will undergo a significant upgrade aimed at improving the passenger experience and enhancing the airport’s capacity to meet future growth demands.

Passenger capacity expected to reach its peak

DIAL CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar said the renovation of the four-decade-old T2 is the need of the hour. He also said that the overall passenger experience will be enhanced by upgrading key infrastructure, improving operational efficiency and enhancing passenger comfort. The terminal’s projected passenger capacity is expected to reach its peak by FY 2025-26, following these improvements. This is important in meeting the growing demand for air travel, especially domestic passengers. Delhi Airport handles around 1,300 flights every day.
