Supreme Court’s harsh comment regarding freebies
The Supreme Court has said a big thing about freebies i.e. free schemes of governments. Before the Delhi Assembly, the court made a scathing comment on the governments and said that ‘when it comes to paying salaries to judges, the governments talk about financial constraints and they have money for free schemes.’ A bench of the Supreme Court hearing the judges’ salary case made this comment. The bench said that the state has money to distribute free food, but not to pay the salaries and pensions of judges. The bench also mentioned the rash announcements being made in the Delhi elections and said, ‘Some are talking about giving Rs 2100 and some Rs 2500.’
Expressing disappointment over the attitude of the governments regarding the salary and pension of district court judges, the Supreme Court, pointing to the money distributed free of cost by all the state governments, said, “For those who do not do any work, you have no money.” There is money and when the question of judges’ salaries and pensions comes up, you start citing financial problems.”
Supreme Court heard the petition filed
The All India Judges Association had filed a petition in the Supreme Court in 2015 regarding the salary and retirement benefits of judges. The case was heard by Justice BR Gavai and Justice AG Masih. It was said in the petition that the judges are not getting their salaries on time and they are also not getting the benefits of post-retirement benefits.
On this, Justice Gavai commented, “The state has all the money for people who do no work. When we talk about financial constraints, we should also consider this. As soon as the elections come, you will see dear sister and Others announce new schemes in which you have to pay a fixed amount. Now some party in Delhi has announced that if they come to power, they will give Rs 2500.
