The most special thing about this day is that India’s first female teacher Savitribai Phule was born on this day. Savitribai Phule, born on January 3, 1831, was the first principal of India’s first girls’ school and the founder of the first farmers’ school. Savitribai lived her entire life like a mission.

Savitribai Phule was born on January 3, 1831 in a village in Satara district of Maharashtra. Savitribai Phule is known as a social worker, participant in the women’s liberation movement and the country’s first teacher.

Society changed through long struggle

Women did not have the right to study in the 19th century. Only upper caste men studied. Savitribai also did not go to school till the time of marriage. Her husband had studied till third class. After this, Savitribai took education from her husband and spread awareness in the society about women’s rights, education, untouchability, sati, child marriage and widow remarriage. He fought a long struggle to break superstitions and conservative beliefs. Along with her husband, she opened 18 schools for girls. In the year 1848, he started the country’s first girls’ school in Pune.

Died while helping plague patients

When Savitribai Phule went to school, people used to throw cow dung and throw stones at her. She always carried a saree in her bag and used to change the saree after going to school. After this she used to teach children. He also made important contribution to Marathi literature. After her husband’s death in 1890, she decided to complete his unfinished work and died in 1897 while helping plague patients. In view of her contribution to the society, there has been a demand for Bharat Ratna for her and celebration of Women’s Day on January 3.

Demand to give Bharat Ratna

Bharatiya Janata Party MP Unmesh Patil had requested the Central Government in the Lok Sabha last year to posthumously award ‘Bharat Ratna’ to social reformer Savitribai Phule. Patil had made this demand during zero hour in the House. He had said that Savitribai Phule worked in the field of education. Patil had requested the government to give ‘Bharat Ratna’ to Savitri Bai Phule posthumously. This will be respect and a true tribute to him.

Demand to declare January 3 as Women’s Day

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Vice-Chancellor Shantishree Dhulipudi Pandit had requested the Central Government last year that the birth anniversary of social reformer Savitribai Phule should be celebrated as Women’s Day along with January 3 and March 8. Pandit, the first woman Vice Chancellor of the university, had said that because of Phule’s work and contribution, “I have been able to reach where I am today.” She had said that because of the work of Savitribai Phule, the society has progressed. . March 8 is celebrated as Women’s Day, but we should also celebrate Phule’s birth anniversary as Women’s Day.

Bharatiya Janata Party MP Sanghamitra Maurya had demanded in the Parliament to celebrate the birth anniversary of great social worker Savitribai Phule on January 3 as ‘Women Teachers Day’. He had said in the Lok Sabha, “Mata Savitribai Phule was not only the country’s first teacher but also a great social worker.” He and his contributions will be remembered for a long time.”
