Voting for the presidential election continues in South Korea. In this election, there is a contest between the Left -wing Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) and the right -wing People Power Party (PPP).
Voting continues from 2:30 pm late Indian time, which will run till 4:30 pm. The result of this election will come on 4 June.
This election is taking place at a time when South Korea is struggling with internal political instability as well as the threats of US President Donald Trump and Tariff, Tension from North Korea and the world’s second largest economy is struggling with cold relations with China.

Premature presidential election
Although elections were to be held in South Korea in 2027, the PPP party’s Un Suk Yola was removed from the presidency in December last year due to martial law.
Yun Suk Yolle cited the anti-state forces and threat from North Korea behind the installation of martial law. However, it was soon clear that he had only set up martial law to get rid of his political troubles.
A week later, Parliament impeached him. On 4 April, the constitutional court retained his impeachment and permanently removed him from the post. After this, according to the law, it became mandatory to hold elections in 60 days.

Yun Suk Yol had apologized by bowing his head from the country for setting up martial law.
