JN.1 variants weakens immunity
JN.1 is a strain of BA.2.86 of Omikron. Which was first seen in August 2023. In December 2023, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared it a ‘variant of interest’.
It has about 30 mutations, which weaken immunity. According to Johns Hopkins University in America, JN.1 spreads more easily than earlier variants, but it is not very serious. It remains the most common variant in many parts of the world.
Symptoms of Covid-19 JN.1 can live anywhere from a few days to weeks. If your symptoms persist for a long time, you may have long-covid. This is a situation in which some symptoms of Covid-19 persist even after recovering.

Do the existing vaccines work on JN.1?
According to the study, neutralizing JN.1 is a bit difficult for the immune system. Anti -bodies made of earlier vaccines or infections are less effective against it, but XBB.1.5 Monowalent booster vaccine helps fight JN.1.
According to WHO, xbb.1.5 monovalant booster is a Kovid-19 vaccine. It is specially designed to identify the XBB.1.5 sub-variants of Omikron. This booster increases antibodies in the body and can prevent the disease from JN.1 from 19% to 49%.

93 cases were reported in India
There is no major wave of corona in India right now. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, only 93 cases have been reported in the country as of May 19, 2025.
Doctors in Mumbai have seen some cases of light symptoms, especially in the youth, but no information has been found about the new wave. Indian health experts have advised to take precautions and take vaccines in view of increasing cases in neighboring countries.
There were 1.55 lakh deaths from Corona in India

Due to the Omikron variants, the cases increased greatly in the third wave, but it was less deadly than the second wave. The mortality rate was only 0.2%. There were 10,465 deaths in this wave. About 50.05 lakh new cases were registered.
