In fact, under the Enemy Property Act, the Indian government can claim the properties of those people who went to Pakistan after the partition in 1947. The last Nawab of Bhopal was Hamidullah Khan who had three daughters. The eldest daughter, Abida Sultan, migrated to Pakistan in 1950. Whereas, his second daughter Sajida Sultana stayed in India and married Nawab Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi here. After this she became the legal heir. Sajida Sultana’s grandson is Saif Ali Khan who has inherited a part of these properties. However, Abida Sultana’s visit to Pakistan became the focal point of the government’s claim on these properties under the Enemy Property Act.

What happened in the court?

According to reports, this dispute started in the year 2014. According to the information, the Custodian of Enemy Property Department had issued a notice declaring the properties of Pataudi family located in Bhopal as enemy property. Saif Ali Khan challenged this notice in the High Court in 2015 and took a stay on the property. On December 13, 2024, the bench of Justice Vivek Aggarwal of Madhya Pradesh High Court had rejected Saif Ali Khan’s petition. After this, the court gave him 30 days to file an appeal before the tribunal. However, Saif and none of his family members have taken any step yet.
