Sheikh Hasina’s party Awami League may be banned from participating in the upcoming elections in Bangladesh. Mahfooz Alam, advisor to interim government chief Mohammad Yunus, made this claim at an election rally on Saturday.
Mahfooz Alam said that only pro-Bangladeshi parties will be allowed to contest elections. Only pro-Bangladesh parties like Khaleda Zia’s Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Jamaat-e-Islami and student organization Bangladesh will be able to maintain their politics.
Alam said that only these parties can rule the country through fair elections. He described the Awami League party as anti-Bangladesh and fascist and said that this party would not be allowed to flourish again.

While addressing the rally in Chandpur, Mahfooz Alam claimed that Awami League will not contest the elections again.
Alam said- Elections only after correcting the mistakes of Sheikh Hasina Mahfooz Alam also said that elections will not be held in the country until ‘necessary reforms’ are done and the mistakes of Hasina government are not rectified. Two days ago, Mohammad Yunus had said that general elections can be held in the country in December 2025 or January 2026. Mahfouz said-

The priorities of our government include bringing the criminals to justice, ensuring justice to the victims and conducting fair elections with the participation of all pro-Bangladesh political parties. This has not happened in the country for the last 16 years.
Mahfooz Alam is the mastermind of student movement After the formation of interim government in Bangladesh, Mahfooz Alam got the post of Special Assistant. After some time he got the post of advisor in the cabinet. Last year, during a program at the Joint Presidential General Assembly, Mohammad Yunus praised Mahfouz Alam and called him the ‘master mind’ of the student movement.
Yunus said that without Mahfouz Alam, it was difficult to overthrow the Sheikh Hasina government. More than 100 cases have been filed against Hasina since Mohammad Yunus took over power in Bangladesh. If Awami League is prevented from contesting the elections then Bangladesh Nationalist Party, Jamaat-e-Islami and Mohammad Yunus-backed party may get an edge.
