Share Market Today: After a spectacular rise in the first 2 days of the new year, the stock market faltered and fell today on January 3. Sensex fell by 720 points. Whereas Nifty fell to the level of 24,000. Due to this, the wealth of stock market investors today sank to the tune of Rs 80,000 crore. During today’s trading, maximum selling was seen in IT, pharma and banking stocks. However, losses were slightly mitigated by the rise in Oil & Gas and Metal stocks. Broader markets also remained in the red. BSE Midcap index fell 0.33 per cent. Whereas the Smallcap index closed with a slight decline of 0.02 percent.
At the end of trading, BSE Sensex closed at 79,223.11, down 720.60 points or 0.90 per cent. Whereas NSE’s 50-share index, Nifty fell by 183.90 points or 0.76 per cent and closed at the level of 24,004.75.
₹80,000 crore of investors lost
The total market capitalization of companies listed on BSE came down to Rs 449.67 lakh crore today on January 3, which was Rs 450.47 lakh crore on its previous trading day i.e. Thursday, January 2. In this way, the market cap of companies listed in BSE has decreased by about Rs 80,000 crore today. Or in other words, the wealth of investors has declined by about Rs 80,000 crore.
These 5 Sensex stocks had the highest rise
10 out of 30 shares of BSE Sensex closed in the green i.e. with gains. In this, Tata Motors shares had the highest rise of 3.33 percent. After this, shares of Titan, Nestle India, Hindustan Unilever (HUL) and Reliance Industries (RIL) closed with a rise of 0.78 percent to 1.70 percent.
These 5 Sensex stocks fell the most
Whereas the remaining 20 Sensex stocks closed with losses today. In this too, Zomato shares were the top loser with a decline of 4.27 percent. At the same time, shares of HDFC Bank, Tech Mahindra, Adani Ports and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) saw a decline of 2.03 percent to 2.46 percent.

There was a rise in 2,117 shares
The number of shares closing with gains on Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) today was high. A total of 4,103 shares were traded on the exchange today. Out of these, 2,117 shares closed with gains. A decline was seen in 1,866 shares. While 120 shares closed flat without any fluctuations. Apart from this, 199 shares touched their new 52-week high during trading today. Whereas 23 shares touched their new 52-week low.
