Share Market Today: Indian stock markets started the new year with a boom. Sensex closed today on January 1 with an increase of 368 points. Whereas Nifty increased to near 23,750. Due to this, the wealth of stock market investors increased by approximately Rs 3 lakh crore on the very first day of the year. Today’s rise in the market was all-round. BSE Midcap index closed 0.5 percent higher. Whereas the smallcap index increased by 1.03 percent. Except realty and metal, all the sectoral indices of BSE also remained in the green today.
At the end of trading, BSE Sensex closed at 78,507.41, up 368.40 points or 0.47 per cent. Meanwhile, NSE’s 50-share index Nifty closed at 23,742.90, up 98.10 points or 0.41 per cent.
Investors earned ₹3.08 lakh crore
The total market capitalization of companies listed on BSE increased to Rs 444.43 lakh crore today on January 1, which was Rs 441.35 lakh crore on its previous trading day i.e. Monday, December 31. In this way, the market cap of companies listed in BSE has increased by about Rs 3.08 lakh crore today. Or in other words, the wealth of investors has increased by about Rs 3.08 lakh crore.
These 5 Sensex stocks had the biggest rise
22 out of 30 shares of BSE Sensex closed in the green i.e. with gains. In this, Maruti Suzuki shares had the highest rise of 3.26 percent. After this, shares of Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), Bajaj Finance, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and Tata Motors closed with a rise of 1.15 per cent to 2.45 per cent.
These 5 Sensex stocks fell the most
Whereas the remaining 8 Sensex stocks closed with losses today. In this too, Tata Steel shares were the top losers with a decline of 0.98 percent. Whereas Adani Ports, Zomato, HCL Tech and State Bank of India (SBI) saw a decline of 0.21 per cent to 0.80 per cent.

There was a rise in 2,741 shares
The number of shares closed with losses on Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) today. A total of 4,071 shares were traded on the exchange today. Out of these, 2,741 shares closed with gains. A decline was seen in 1,241 shares. While 89 shares closed flat without any fluctuations. Apart from this, 153 shares touched their new 52-week high during trading today. Whereas 37 shares touched their new 52-week low.
