Mansi Sajja is a fund manager in SBI Mutual Fund. He is a co-fund manager of six funds. The total asset under management (AUM) of these funds is around Rs 1.41 lakh crore. SBI is the largest asset management company in Mutual Fund India. During the days of Sajja’s studies, the financial market in India was not so developed. Sajja said that things like analyst, research, by side were not heard. In such a situation, how can you think about the career of fund manager. Moneycontrol spoke openly about his journey and investment up to the fund manager in the country’s largest AMC.
Decision to stay in India instead of career abroad
Sajja said that many links were joined by becoming fund manager. Like I was an interest in business and economics. I used to read business newspapers and magazines. I did MBA, which had my specialization finance. I wanted a career in which I could get a chance to meet Indian promoters. About 19 years ago, a global firm’s offshore units got a chance to research. Had it gone in it, my career would have been different today. However, I chose the option to live in India.
Career is not interrupted for women in India Inc.
He said that I started my career with a credit analyst in a rating agency. After that, a mutual fund came as analyst. This is a matter of global financial crisis. He said that there is no obstacle for women in India Inc. today. You have to keep moving forward in career with hard work and experience. You become analyst, then a senior analyst. Then some portfolio handle and then become fund managers.

Investors should not pay attention to short term gains
What is your mantra for investors? In response, Sajja said that retail investor has become quite matured today. Especially compared to the 1990s, it looks clear. He does not consider shares as a speculative asset class today. Due to this, the market is also getting depth. If retail investors invest their goals in mind, they will not be disappointed. I am not an expert, but I would like to say that investors should not pay attention to the short term gense. There is a lot of effort and skill for investment.
