Government Scheme: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced the Pujari and Granthi Samman Yojana. Under the Priest and Granthi Samman Yojana scheme, priests of Hindu temples and granthis of Gurudwaras will be given an honorarium of ₹ 18,000 every month. Kejriwal called it the first such scheme in the country in which religious persons have been recognized for their service. This scheme will be implemented in Delhi when the AAP government comes to power once again. Assembly elections are to be held in Delhi next month in February 2025. Registration under the scheme will start from Tuesday, December 31, 2024.
The priests of Delhi’s Gurudwaras will get Rs 18,000 every month.
Kejriwal said during a press conference that priests and granthis have performed religious rituals for generations, but the needs of their families were never taken into account. He said that this scheme is being started to help them. He announced that the registration of this scheme will start from Tuesday and he will go to Hanuman Temple in Connaught Place, Delhi to launch it. Registration for this scheme will start from tomorrow i.e. 31st December 2024.
There has already been controversy over Mahila Samman Yojana
Recently, Kejriwal’s Mahila Samman Yojana was announced. Under this scheme, unemployed women were promised Rs 2100 per month. The AAP government would have started giving these Rs 2100 after winning the assembly elections in Delhi. However, the very next day the Women and Child Development Department termed this scheme as non-existent and prohibited people from sharing their personal information. After this, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena also ordered an investigation into the people collecting personal information of women. This investigation was started on the basis of the complaint of Congress leader Sandeep Dixit.
AAP government’s problems increased
AAP described the controversy as a conspiracy by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and accused it of pressurizing the officials. At the same time, BJP termed it a fraud and said that AAP and Delhi government are not unanimous. Delhi Police has also formed several teams to investigate the case. At the same time, the controversy over Mahila Samman Yojana is creating problems for the Kejriwal government.
