Durban Super Giants vs Pretoria Capitals

SA20: South Africa’s T20 League i.e. SA20 has started from 9 January. On the first day, MI Cape Town defeated defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape. After this, the next day i.e. on 10 January, the second match of the tournament was played between Durban Super Giants and Pretoria Capitals in which tremendous excitement was seen. The match went till the last ball of the last over but in the end Durban Super Giants managed to win the match by 2 runs. Batting first after winning the toss, Durban Super Giants scored a huge score of 209 runs losing 4 wickets in 20 overs. For Durban Super Giants, Kane Williamson played the highest inning of 60 runs while Bryce Parsons played an inning of 47 runs. Apart from this, Viaan Mulder contributed 45 runs. Senuran Muthusamy took maximum 3 wickets for Pretoria Capitals.

In reply to Durban Super Giants’ score of 209 runs, Pretoria Capitals had a explosive start. The opening pair of Will Jacques and Rahmanullah Gurbaz started the innings brilliantly. Both scored half-centuries and made a partnership of 154 runs for the first wicket. Pretoria got its first blow in the form of Gurbaz in the 13th over. Gurbaz missed his century by just 11 runs. The opening batsman played an innings of 89 runs in 43 balls with the help of 3 fours and 7 sixes.

Flurry of wickets in death overs

After Gurbaz, there was a flurry of wickets. Riley Rousseau and Will Jacques also continued till the 15th over. Rousseau could score only 1 run while Will Jacques played an inning of 64 runs. By the end of the 15th over, the team had scored 177 runs on the scoreboard after losing 3 wickets. Pretoria needed 33 runs in the last 5 overs and the team’s victory seemed easy but something happened in the last over that the entire match turned upside down.

Due to Durban’s tight bowling, Pretoria was seen struggling to score runs in the death overs. During this period the process of falling wickets also continued. Till 19 overs, the team had put 196 runs on the scoreboard after losing 6 wickets and now 14 runs were needed to win in the last over.

Naveen showed his strength

Naveen Ul Haq came to bowl the last over and stopped Pretoria 3 runs short of the target with brilliant bowling. He gave only 11 runs in this last over and thus Pretoria Capitals started their campaign in the tournament in great style by winning the match by a slight margin of 2 runs. Pretoria needed a four on the last ball but Steve Stolk could only take a single on the last ball of bowler Naveen.
