The Pakistani team has got the hosting of Champions Trophy 2025 and BCCI had refused to send the Indian team there. After this it was decided to play this tournament on hybrid model. All the matches of the Indian team will be held on UAE soil. Now the Indian team squad for Champions Trophy 2025 has been announced. The Indian team has two wicketkeepers in the form of KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. But the selectors have not given a chance to Sanju Samson who is in excellent form.
Pant has played only one ODI match after getting injured
Star wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant has made a comeback after having an accident. Since then he could play only one ODI match, in which only 6 runs came from his bat. He has not been able to prove himself yet in ODI cricket and has scored 871 runs in 31 ODI matches at a modest average of just 33.50, which includes one century. Many times questions have been raised on his wicketkeeping skills and technique. In such a situation, it is possible that he will remain sitting on the bench during the entire Champions Trophy and KL Rahul will get the responsibility of wicketkeeper in the playing eleven.
Sanju Samson is in great form
On the other hand, Sanju Samson is in excellent form and for some time now he has shown the threat of his bat in the world of cricket. He scored two centuries with his bat in the T20 series against South Africa. Earlier, he had scored a century in the T20I series against Bangladesh. So far, he has scored a total of 810 runs in 37 T20I matches for Team India, scoring three centuries.
Sanju Samson’s ODI cricket statistics are excellent. He has played 16 ODI matches so far, in which he has scored 510 runs at an average of 56.66. He has one century and three half-centuries in his name in ODIs. But despite being in good form, the selectors ignored him and gave a chance to Rishabh Pant.
Rahul has long experience
KL Rahul has been performing the responsibility of wicketkeeper in ODI cricket for Team India for some time. He was the wicketkeeper of Team India in the ODI World Cup 2023. While India played the last ODI series against Sri Lanka, Rahul played the first two matches as a wicketkeeper. He has scored 2851 runs in 77 ODI matches so far. He can be included as a wicketkeeper in the playing eleven of Team India for the Champions Trophy.
