Speed post: The postal department has announced a major change. From 1 September 2025, registered post and speed post service will be merged among themselves. This means that now whatever domestic registered post will be sent, it will be sent as speed post. This change will be applicable across the country. Know here what the customers will be benefited by this.
Why was this decision taken?
The postal department has said that the purpose of this initiative is to make the postal service easier. Also, improve the tracking system and provide more service to customers. Both speed post and registered post offers the same service. One focuses on rapid delivery and the other is known for safe delivery.
What will happen after 1 September 2025?
Registered post -help is no longer available.
All domestic mails will now come under speed post service.
The facility of proof of delivery and the need for the receiver’s signature etc. was available in the first registered post. She will now be given a value added feature in the speed post. The current tracking service of the speed post is already better, allowing the parcel position to be tracked in real time.
If you send any goods up to 50 grams, then sending Rs 15 for local delivery and Rs 35 will be charged for sending more than 200 km, 1000 km or 2000 km anywhere in the country.
If the parcel weighs between 51 grams to 200 grams, then sending to local will be charged 25 rupees, 35 km to Rs.
If the weight is between 201 grams to 500 grams, then for local Rs 30, 200 km to 50 rupees, 60 km from 201 to 1000 km, 80 rupees from 1001 to 2000 km and Rs 90 for sending 90 rupees to be sent at a distance of 2000 km.
If your parcel is more than 500 grams, then every additional 500 grams or its share will have to be paid 10 rupees in local, Rs 15 up to 200 km, 30 rupees up to 1000 km, 401 to 2000 km and Rs 50 for more than 2000 km.
Note that they are leaving charge tax. If you also want a proof of delivery, then you will have to give Rs 10 per article separately for this.

Local: 1–2 days
Metro to metro: 1–3 days
Capital from state capital: 1–4 days
In the same state: 1–4 days
In the rest of the country: 4–5 days

2,000 to Rs 1 lakh daily booking: 5% discount
Daily booking above Rs 1 lakh: 10% discount

Customers who used to use registered postka earlier, should now take information from the post office before sending mail from speed post, what proof or facility they will get. This is especially necessary for those who need written proof of delivery.
