Free LPG cylinder refill is being provided to the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana before Holi and during Ramadan. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced this on Wednesday. According to PTI news, at the subsidy distribution program in Lucknow, the CM said that Rs 1,890 crore is being released for 1.86 crore beneficiaries to ensure that they can benefit before the festival.
Promised to give free gas cylinder
According to the news, the Chief Minister said that our government had promised to give free gas cylinders to every Ujjwala beneficiary during Diwali and Holi. The state government ensures this by allotting Rs 1,890 crore per installment from the budget, which is Rs 3,760 crore annually. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for launching this initiative in 2016 and said that this campaign has provided free LPG connections to 10 crore families across the country, out of which about two crore are from Uttar Pradesh.
Gift from the government
The Chief Minister reiterated the state’s commitment to the scheme and said that since both Holi and Ramadan festivals are being celebrated, every beneficiary can avail this scheme. He described it as “gift from the government”. Highlighting the difficulties faced by the people before the Ujjwala scheme, Adityanath claimed that earlier a bribe of up to Rs 25,000 was to be paid to get LPG connection and it was difficult to get refill even after getting the connection.
80,000 quota ration shops in the state
Today, the Prime Minister Ujjwala Yojana ensures that women do not have to suffer from harmful smoke while cooking. The Chief Minister also highlighted the improvement in the state’s public distribution system and said that now there are 80,000 quota ration shops in the state. He also explained how the electronic point of cell (EPOS) machines in these shops are curbing the disturbances in ration distribution, which was not earlier. This gives immediate detection of any kind of rigging and strict action is taken.
