Razorpay: Now OTP is not required for card payments, Razorpay brings biometric facility – now OTP is not required for card payments razorpay brings biometric facility

Razorpay: Have you forgotten your credit or debit card PIN? Or are you worried about not getting OTP? If so, then there is no need to panic, because soon you will not need any of these to make credit card payments. Yes, actually payment service provider Razorpay has started the facility of biometric authentication, which will eliminate the need for OTP in card transactions. This facility, launched in partnership with Yes Bank, was announced by Razorpay CEO Harshil Mathur at the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2025.

Explaining the move, Mathur said card payments traditionally required entering an OTP or PIN, but transactions often failed due to delays and network issues. “One of the challenges with OTPs is that sometimes they don’t arrive on time, or the network doesn’t work, which leads to about 5 to 10 percent of payments failing,” he said.

To solve this problem, Razorpay has introduced a biometric option. “Now, when you make a card payment, instead of OTP, you just have to show your face, and the transaction is completed through Face ID. If the phone has a fingerprint sensor, it will use that,” Mathur said.

He said that this method provides two benefits – more security and more successful transactions. Mathur said, “It is more secure and also improves the success rate. This is the next generation of payments, which will take India forward as well as globally in how payments are authorized.”

The launch is another step forward in the evolution of India’s digital payments, reflecting the fintech sector’s focus on security, innovation and user convenience.
