According to the new fair structure, which comes into force from July 1, 2025, there will be no change in the fare of suburban trains and monthly season tickets. There has been no change in fares for traveling up to 500 km in general second class.
However, the fare for more distance from 500 km will increase by 0.5 paise per kilometer.
Now not everyone will get Tatkal ticket
Apart from this, the Ministry of Railways has made Aadhaar Authentication compulsory for all Tatkal ticket booking through the IRCTC website and app from 1 July 2025. The move declared on June 10 through a directive is to prevent immediate misuse of the scheme and ensure that the ticket is actually given to the needy passengers.
The official notice of the Railways states that “from 01-07-2025, only Aadhaar Authentic Users will be able to book tickets under the Tatkal Scheme website of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).”
The ministry has also announced that from 15 July 2025, passengers will have to complete another step of Aadhaar-based OTP authentication while booking Tatkal tickets.
In the new guidelines, boundaries have been fixed on Tatkal ticket reservation for authorized booking agents of Indian Railways. These representatives have now been stopped from booking Tatkal tickets on the first day in the first half an hour.
This ban is applicable from 10 am to 10.30 am for booking AC class and from 11 am to 11.30 am for booking non-AC class.
