Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar participated in the meeting of foreign ministers of Quad countries on Tuesday after the swearing in of Donald Trump in America. This was the first major meeting to be held in the new Trump administration. Foreign ministers of India, America, Japan and Australia also participated in the meeting.
This was the first meeting of US Foreign Minister Marco Rubio. He joined it just 1 hour after assuming office. Penny Wong from Australia and Iwaya Takeshi from Japan participated in it. The four leaders also posed for a group photo.
The US Secretary of State described this meeting as a commitment to work with the ally. Jaishankar thanked his colleagues for the meeting by posting on X.
No information was shared about the meeting, it will be shared later.
Bilateral meeting between Jaishankar and Rubio
After the Quad meeting, the first bilateral meeting also took place between the Indian and US Foreign Ministers. This meeting lasted for more than an hour. Indian Ambassador Vinay Mohan Kwatra was also present in it.
After the meeting, Rubio and Jaishankar shook hands and posed for the cameras smilingly in front of the media during a photo session.
Jaishankar posted X and wrote-
Pleased to have my first bilateral meeting with Marco Rubio since assuming office as Secretary of State. We reviewed our comprehensive bilateral partnership. Foreign Minister Rubio has been its supporter. Also exchanged views on regional and global issues.
After this, Jaishankar also held a meeting with US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz at the White House.
Trump may come to India for Quad
US President Donald Trump may visit India this year for the meeting of Quad countries. India is scheduled to host the Quad summit with the leaders of Australia, Japan and the US. This conference can be organized in April or October.
Apart from this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi can also visit America by the end of this year. During this, he will participate in a formal meeting with Trump at the White House. Earlier, PM Modi had participated in the Quad meeting with Joe Biden in Delaware last year.
Quad 2024 was to be organized in India, but on the request of Joe Biden, India gave its hosting to America.
