The Punjab government led by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has appointed four hockey players as Punjab Civil Services (PCS) officer. All these players are Olympic medalists. The Punjab government has appointed hockey stars Rupinder Pal Singh, Simranjit Singh, Hardik Singh and Gurjant Singh as PCS officers.

Rupinder, Hardik, Gurjant and Simranjeet are all Olympic medalists, who have been an integral part of the Indian team that won a bronze medal in Tokyo in 2021. Gurjant and Hardik were also part of the Indian team that won the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics in 2024. Rupinder announced retirement from hockey after the Tokyo Games, but was called back to lead the Indian team for the Asia Cup.
Meanwhile, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann said that the government is considering giving jobs to players who have excelled internationally. Mann said, “The state government is committed to giving 100% jobs to players who excelled in international competitions.” He said, “Punjab not only has the distinction of being the Annadata of the country, but it also gives the best player. From time to time, the players of the state have illuminated the name of the country with their brilliant performance in various competitions.”
Rupinder thanked the state government for his decision, saying, “This will inspire the players to excel in the field of sports and to illuminate the name of the country.” The state government has appointed seven athletes coming from various sports background as Punjab Police Service (PPS) officer. These include hockey captain Harmanpreet Singh, Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur, besides Mandeep Singh, Varun Kumar, Shamsher Singh, Dilpreet Singh and Tejinder Tur (shot-putr).
