Actually farmers cultivate Tukaram onion. He had insured his crop. It rained in April last year. In such a situation, the farmer received a compensation of Rs 60,000 under the PM Crop Insurance Scheme. He said that his stake to insure the crop in this way was successful. Farmer Shreyas said that this was not enough to compensate for the loss, but this led to the cost of sowing. This did not cause much loss in onion cultivation.
PM farmer’s scope increased in Maharashtra
The scope of PM Crop Insurance Scheme is increasing in Maharashtra. The trend of farmers has now increased towards crop insurance. He is confident that compensation is definitely received under the PM Crop Insurance Scheme. A farmer from Naigaon, Maharashtra also insured his crop under the PM Crop Insurance Scheme. According to government data, more than 7.43 lakh hectares of onion crop has been insured in Maharashtra in 2024-25. 5 years ago, in 2019-20, this number was just 45,000 hectares. Officials of the Agriculture Department say that the number of insurance has increased due to the charge charging a minor premium. From the year 2023, farmers in Maharashtra have to pay a premium of only 1 rupee.
Maharashtra leads in onion production case
Maharashtra is the largest onion producing state in the country. More than 34 percent of onion yields in the country are in Maharashtra. Nashik division is especially in the most onion growing areas of the state. There has been excessive rainfall in 4 of the last 5 seasons. Kharif crop has been damaged due to heavy rains in the last monsoon. In addition, heavy rains in summer, especially in 2023, have also damaged the Rabi crop. Farmers of many states of the country can avail the PM Crop Insurance Scheme. For this, farmers have to fill a form. You can apply it online or offline. If farmers want to apply online, then they can apply by visiting the website of PM Crop Insurance Scheme https://pmfby.gov.in. On the other hand, if you want to apply offline, then you can apply by going to the nearest bank, co-operative society or CSC (Common Service Center). Farmers have to apply for insurance within 10 days of crop sowing. Only then crop insurance is considered eligible.
How much is premium?
Farmers have to pay the prescribed premium for insurance. Under this, 2 percent of the insurance amount for kharif crops, 1.5 percent of rabi crops and maximum 5 percent premium for commercial and horticulture crops.
