The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said in its latest data on Saturday that many notes of 2000 rupees are still present with people. Giving information, the central bank said that 98. 18 percent notes of Rs 2000 are returned to the banking system. Such notes worth only Rs 6,471 crore are still with the public. According to PTI news, RBI said that the total value of 2000 rupee notes in vogue, which was Rs 3. 56 lakh crore at the end of trading on May 19, 2023, decreased to Rs 6,471 crore at the end of the business on 28 February 2025.
Still ₹ 2000 note can be back
Let us tell you, on May 19, 2023, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced the withdrawal of 2000 rupee notes. The RBI said in a statement that thus, 98. 18 percent notes of Rs 2000 have been returned in circulation by May 19, 2023. The facility of depositing and changing 2000 rupee notes was available in all bank branches by October 7, 2023. However, this facility is still available in the 19 issue offices (Regional Office) of the Reserve Bank.
Note will remain valid currency
Since October 9, 2023, RBI Regional Office has also been accepting 2000 rupee bank notes to deposit in their bank accounts from individuals and institutions. Also, common people can send 2000 rupee bank notes from any post office of the country to submit their bank accounts to any regional office of RBI. Bank notes of 2000 rupees will remain valid currency. Earlier, 98.15 percent notes of Rs 2000, which had been removed from trend in early February, had returned to the banking system and then only such notes of Rs 6,577 crore were present with the people. In about a month, there have been only minor changes in these figures.
