Pakistan had demanded the chairmanship of four terrorism committees from the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). But other members turned it down. Pakistan received only one 1988 Taliban Ban Committee.
Pakistan is a temporary member of UNSC. He sought the 1267 sanction committee, 1540 (non-emergence) committee, 1988 Taliban Committee and 1373 Counter Terrorism Committee (CTC). Apart from the Taliban Committee, he was also given the vice of CTC. India believes that this is much less than Pakistan’s big expectations and claims.
Due to Pakistan’s demands, the UNSC could not agree, causing a delay of about five months in the allocation of committees. According to media reports, “This allocation should have been done by January 2025, but Pakistan’s improper demands could not be agreed till June 2025.”
